of the Inhabitants of the several Parishes, in which any of the last

Act continues the term of the previous Act for a period of 21 years. It names additional Trustees (4 pages)
within several groups responsible for different parts of the road and their
duties, gives permission for them to erect Turnpikes, Toll-houses and
milestones, etc. It details people who qualify for Statute work and penalties
for not doing their work, etc. The
first meeting of the Trustees for each group is to take place "at the
house now kept by Anne Beete Widow situate within the Town of
Birmingham" and "at the house of William Haden at the Sign of The
George, situate in Wordsley, in the Parish of King-Swinford, aforesaid". "That all such Money as shall, from
and after the passing of this present Act, be collected and received at any
Turnpike or Turnpikes erected or to be erected in, on, or upon the Sides of
the Turnpike Roads leading from Brimingham through the Town of Wednesbury,
and also to the said Place called Great Bridge, and from thend to the said
End of the said Lane called Gibbet Lane, and to the said Place called the
Nether Trindle near Dudley, shall, after the defraying their Proportion of
the charges of passing this present Act, and other necessary Expences...be
laid out and applied only for and towards repairing the said last mentioned
Roads, in such Manner...", etc.
"Provided always, and be it further enacted by the Authority
aforesaid, That the Side Gate or Turnpike now standing at or near a Place
called Burnt Tree, in the Road between dudley and Oldbury, shall be pulled
down; and that no To;; Gate shall, during the Continuance of this Act, be
erected or set up in the same Place, or in the said Road, nearer to the Place
called the Nether Trindle than the said Place called Burnt Tree." 21

WILLIAM III INDENTURE IN ENGLISH ON PARCHMENT A complete indenture on
parchment in excellent condition; printed heading, remainder in a fine, very
readable hand and bearing a wax seal with signet stamp. The indenture is
between Thomas Harris of Kiderminster, Chandler and Josiah Baker, upholsterer
of Shrewsbury for a dwelling house, a large garden walled with brick and
stable brewhouse workhouse etc near Coventry Street in Kidderminster. Ground
rent one peppercorn payable on the Feast of Pentecost. The parchment is
approximately 15" (37 cms) by 12" (31 cms) and folds down to a
small parcel 3.5" (9 cms) by 5" (13 cms) and carries two duty
stamps. The outside is discoloured in proportion to its age of over three
hundred years, but the inside is clean and fresh. |
