would appear to be a draft indenture.
Names mentioned John Burgh of Waterhouse, Staffs. (gent.), Phillip
Trafford of Swithamley, Staffs. (gent) son and heir of William Trafford,
Francis Hollingshead son and heir of Francis Hollingshead of Gawsway,
Cheshire (gent) and Francis Challinor of The Knowles, Staffs. (gent). It has a piece crossed out which mentions
the marriage portion of John Burgh & Margaret his wife, daughter of
William Trafford. It mentions property
in Fairfield, Derbyshire and Clownam, Derbyshire. One the reverse it is headed "Articles
betwixt Brough of Clownham and P. Trafford". The second document is four pages long and
may be connected with the first (although the handwriting is the same, the
ink is a different colour). It
mentions the same people as the first and relates to "a bond of £500
penalty with Condicion...". It
quotes the will of John Burgh and mentions his heir Richard Burgh. Both
documents have been folded, are a bit grubby and have some damage. |
