indenture (mortgage) from Duchy of Lancaster, The King to Albert Pickard Esq. This indenture is so unusual to have its intact large seal in case. This piece is five pages bound by ribbon or sting and sealed. It is dated January 29, 1917. Measurements are as follows. Each page is 15 1/2 inches by 10 inches. The seal is 4 1/2 inches in diameter and 9/16 of an inch high. From the image the document is dated 29 January 1917 and is between Duchy of Lancaster The King and Albert Pickard Esqr. It is an Enfranchisement of lands Copyhold of the Manor of Deoford in the County of Leicester.

Wo?? of two closes called Brock??? closes ??? ???Lordship (?) of Ho???? County of Leicester.  at bottom are two red seals on vellum strips hanging down, above are the signitures  (poss) William Day  & John Kitchen ( William Day of Wymondham county of Soir (?) -----(in Suffolk ?.) It mentions other names inc John Wright Document starts with a decorative                               1692 ,   then   This Indenture  ?????  made the Fifth day of July in the forth yeare of His Roityilo? (Royalty) of our Sovoraity?o (Sovereign)Lord and Lady , William and Mary by the grace of God,    King and Queen of England , Stotland (Scotland)  ????(could be France ?)Ireland, defender of the faith , Anno Dom 1692. Robert Wright of Cla ????? Actually i find it very hard to read the letters/words and even trying a sentance twice it seems to come out different both time ,so will leave it to buyer to work it out. All hand written on Vellum. size approx 27 1/2" wide x 15 1/2" (70 x 39.5 cm) , with 2 strips of vellum with red seals hanging down  approx 3" Condition Fair/Good with no major faults, all readable to anyone used to reading this type of old writting.   folded for last 312 years,  top wavy cut rest staight with no sign's of loss,one red seal only tiny loss, the other only part still attached, one  original small hole where there is no letter.Some minor dirt as usual.

"Whereas the Highway or Road leading from Market Harborough to Loughborough in the County of Leicester, by reason of many heavy Carriages frequently passing through the same, is become very much out of Repair, and several Parts thereof in the Winter Season so bad, that Passengers cannot pass through the same without danger..."

 

This Act names the Trustees and lists the Tolls to be paid by each type of vehicle, with exemptions and penalties for avoidance, details how the accounts are to be kept, what the surveyors may and may not do, who qualifies for statute work and penalties for avoidance, etc.  First meeting of the Trustees is to take place at the Angel Inn in Leicester.

A "Dairy for 1895 Ferguson Wright Age 19 Years No. 2 Martin Street Leicester".  160 pages have been filled in: "1st Tues) Got in bed by 11.30 last night.  The last day of 1894.  Got up by 7.30 am.  There was no sticks, so did not light a fire, put the kettle over the gas had my breakfast and got to work by 8.30 a.m.  NB called Jack 4 times.  When I got the shop there was 3 waiting to get in.  Jack Smith, Lee, and ???.  Cherry came in soon after me.  When I had finished all my work but a dozen Holt brought a pair of samples, french black edge..." etc.  Some pages have little diagrams and there is the occasional piece written in short-hand.  The cover has wear to spine, otherwise good condition.
