An early Victorian document dated 11th January 1839 for a one year lease of property and land in Yorkshire. The property is known as the Hey farm and is in Salterforth in the parish of Barnoldswick then in Yorkshire (now in Lancs)> The farm is being leased by a bookeeper named John Cockshott and Joseph Green, a gentleman, both from Manchester. The men are executors for a late Thomas Naylor of Bolton. The farm is leased to a Thomas Cockshott from Skipton, Yorkshire. All three men have signed and each red wax sealed. A solicitor named P Nicholson from Warrington and a solicitor George Dudgeon with his clerk M Himsworth have signed as witnesses. The lease has been entered into the register at Wakefield on page 338 and this has been signed by the town's official. The one page (20"x27") handwritten document has survived these 160 years or so very well and is in good crisp condition.
