Cassell's Illustrated Family
Bible. This beautiful bible is the Cassell's Illustrated Family Bible, Volume
III in half leather binding, and generally very good condition. 1,264 pages,
12.5" by 10". Includes Genesis up to Malachi (no New Testament)
Cover: good, some wear on edges, some scuff marks on
spine. Content: Looks complete, very good condition a few light brown foxing
marks here and there but overall a delightful bible, especially if you were
wishing to bring the stories to life for a younger audience. As well as
illustrations of the people, places and events, there are diagrams and maps,
providing great historical and cultural context. There is a dedication on the
flyleaf: "To Will & Dorothy With Every Good Wish for the Future from
Dad and Mum June 1918". So the First World War is drawing to a close,
you can only imagine the family history and prayers that go along with
that... The following page has family entires for the Pettman family. Three
groups of entries -
1890-1918, 1919-1948 and 1922-1957, the last date in each case probably being
the date the entry was made. Not suprisingly this is very heavy, about 4.5
kilos packed. From the images (I have saved a couple) I can make out at the
top: William George Oliver Pettman born Nov 22nd 1890; Dorothy Sophia Bishop
born Sept 27th 1888; Married at St Pauls Church, Cliftonville, Margate June 5th 1918. The other entries relate to their
children, their marriages and William & Dorothy's grandchildren, down to
Anthony Michael Pettman born in 1957. |
