c.1592 Elizabethan Period Vellum
Document - Cinque Ports Kent. An interesting, though badly defective document
in Latin between William Brooke, 10th. Baron Cobham and other parties
including Thomas Fane, John Ward, William Baedell, Stephen Bunting, Thomas
Baker and Gordon Willmott. Written in the 35th year of the Reign of Queen
Elizabeth, the document goes on to mention Middleburg, Amsterdam and Zeland
in Holland as well as several other names in these places. The document
appears to be some type of agreement, rather than a deed as no property
appears to be mentioned. A old note on the outside states "35 Eliz
Commission..by Broke Lord Cobham keeper of Dover Castle to Thos Fane Esq
& others". The document is headed "Willme Broke" and goes
on to include his titles "...admirall quinque porteur..". Would
certainly warrant further research. Approx. 410x320mm., some text loss due to
old water damage, other tears and soiling present. |
