Sale of
Land. 21 June 1865. Climping, County of Sussex. (Some
additional, and larger size, images of this document can be viewed on http://www.enicholl.com/parchments/document-022/index.htm.
) Conveyance, Indenture - 21 June 1865. Sale of parcels of land to Stephen
Diddlesfold Olliver from the estate of William Cutfield (deceased) Amongst
those mentioned;- William Cutfield, late of the parish of Climping in the
County of Sussex The Heirs of William Cutfield;- Georgina Cutfield, his
sister. James Powell the younger of Chichester in the County of Sussex,
gentleman. Catherine Wardroper, Georgina Wardroper, Eleanor Wardroper, - all
of Gloucester Villa, Portswood in the County of Southampton. Stephen
Diddlesfold Olliver of Climping in the County of Sussex, gentleman Thomas
Bushby of Rutington in the County of Sussex, gentleman. Many other nephews
and nieces mentioned in the disposition of the last will and testament of
William Cutfield. The parcels of land by Ferry Road, West of the River Arun,
were purchased by Stephen Diddlesfold Olliver, as per the detailed map shown
on the third page of this document. Ferry Road, and the area shown on the map,
is clearly identifiable on a modern Ordnance Survey Map. Document consists of
three pages, each approx 28" x 22 ½ " written on parchment. There
are three Sterling Silver Seals on the first page, - one for eight pounds and
the other two for ten shillings each, with three black-and-white VR stamps on
reverse. On the other two sheets there is a single Sterling Silver Seal of
value ten shillings, with a black-and-white VR stamp on reverse. There are
six seals, but only four signatures, James Powell, Catherine Wardroper,
Georgina Wardroper, and Eleanor Wardroper. The above description is
necessarily a very limited one, but there will be much to interest a family
historian in this lengthy and detailed document which describes property in
an area identifiable on the modern Ordnance Survey Map. The document is in
good condition. |
