George IV. Warrant signed as King, 1p large folio 26th
January 1825, being a Royal Pardon for Mansell Powell, thrown into Surrey
County Gaol for the non payment of 'three forfieted recognisances amounting
to 0', manuscript throughout on paper, countersigned by Lord Liverpool, the
Prime Minister, in fine overall condition. Royal Pardons seldom appear on the
market and this particular example bears an extremely large and flourishing
Royal signature, with the added feature of a countersignature by the Prime
Minister who held office throughout the Napoleonic Wars. (1) £150-200 |

document on vellum dated November 5th 1609, being a certified minister's copy
of accounts for Surrey chantries of 1576-77 written in a fine chancery hand and
signed by Edmund Pigeon the Deputy Auditor folds but in generally fine
condition The document details the account of Edward Weller, bailiff in the
hundreds of Godley, Woking, Copthorne, Kingston, Effingham and Elmbridge,
concerning non receipt of 20 pence rent from two plots in Pirbright granted
by the Crown to John Dudley and John Ascoughe on May 17th 1575. Surprisingly
this debt from the middle of the reign of Elizabeth I was still of concern
during the reign of James I. Documents of this nature relating to an
important part of the home counties from such an early date rarely appear on
the market. |

Extensive archive, 19th/20th c., relating to the Spender Clay family
of Ford Manor, Lingfield of estate papers, family letters, press cuttings
etc, and an archive relating to the building of a large family home adjacent
to Ford Manor including plans. A fine archive providing an insight into a
wealthy Surrey family. Henry Spender Clay was an influential back bench MP
who came from an extremely wealth background. The family were connected by
marriage to both the Bowes-Lyon and Astor families. The archive of press
cuttings largely relate to the the marriage of his daughter, Phyllis, and
press reports demonstrate how well the family was connected with guests
including Viscount Astor, Lord Lucan, Lord Glamis, and Lord Hardinge. |

nine wax seals (three different repeated twice each), hand painted ornate
title, blue William the Third paper seals with a crowned rose on each page.
This document came in an unopened bundle of indentures wrapped in old brown

25 including this one - there were 26. There were paper things and letters
among them also. I have sold one from the 17th century, so this is the second
to go. I intend to list the rest in groups mostly because I find I am pulling
my hair out trying to decipher them!!! Here goes for this one: THIS INDENTURE
