Belsize Manor estate. Today this is better known as Hampstead, London. The
lease is granted to Henry Davidson and it also bears his signature. The

site and this became known as 10 Lyndhurst Road, Hampstead. There is a full
description of the location of the land. The document is in good condition

of Agreement. 25 May 1880. Swallow Place, Oxford Street, London. (Some
additional, and larger size, images of this document can be viewed on
http://www.enicholl.com/parchments/document-021/index.htm. ) Agreement for
taking down buildings at 1 & 2 Swallow Place, Oxford Street, London and
the erection of new buildings on the site. Those named include The Honourable
Charles Alexander Gore, a Commissioner of Her Majesty's Woods. Charles Hull,
of Nos 1 & 2 Swallow Place. This document is of particular interest in
that it concerns property in a very well-known part of London, and one of the
parties whose signature is included was a member of the nineteenth century
British aristocracy. (Charles Alexander Gore was the son of Colonel Hon.
William John Gore and Caroline Hales. He was born on 10 October 1811. He
married Lady Augusta Lavinia Priscilla Ponsonby, daughter of John William
Ponsonby, 4th Earl of Bessborough and Lady Maria Fane, on 2 April 1845. He
died on 6 July 1897 at age 85. He held the office of Commissioner of Woods
and Forests between 1839 and 1885.) This is a detailed two page document
detailing the agreement for the demolition of existing property and erection
of new property on land owned by the Crown. The Hon. Charles Gore was the
Queen's representative in this respect. It is interesting in that the
detailed requirements for the contract the architect was required to supply
photographs showing how the buildings related to other buildings. Document
consists of two pages, approx 28 ½ " x 23" written on parchment. On
the second sheet is a coloured plan showing the location of the required
work. Neither of the sheets is indented (both are square cut) and neither
carries a sterling silver seal. The outside of the document carries the stamp
of the Inland Revenue Records for June 1880. Signatures of The Hon. Charles
Gore and Charles Hull, with their seals, on the bottom of the document. The
Hon. Charles Gore's seal contains a crown. The document is in good condition. |

Revd Hugh Hodgson Gillett, of Compton Guildford in the County of Surrey, -
Clerk (in Holy Orders) Eliza
Twynam, of 18 Blandford Square in the County of Middlesex, - Widow A
complex document regarding the sale of several parcels of property and land
which had previously been rented, with the income from the rent going to
Eliza Twynam. The various parcels of property and land were to be transferred
to William Stedman Gillett for the sum of £12,319 / 7s / 6d. The document
describes the property as per an attached schedule and the detailed coloured
map. The principal property identified on the map is Oak Lodge, but roads and
directions are marked such that the property and land can probably be
identified with the modern area of Bishopstoke. The map is very detailed, and
is bound to be of interest to a modern day local historian. Document is in
three sheets, each approx 27 1/2" x 22 1/2". The document is in
good condition, though because it is in three sheets and the sheets have been
kept folded over many years there is some noticeable creasing. On the first
page ("This Indenture") this has led to some loss of legibility. On
the second page there is some staining, though not to a serious degree. There
are two seals with signatures on the document, - those of Henry T and Eliza Tywnam.
The title page carries two red sterling silver stamps for ten shillings each,
with two black-and-white VR stamps on the reverse. |

Attleborough, worsted weaver, son and heir of William Lees, deceased son of
Ralph Lees of Hinckley, Leicester who was the son and heir of Ralph Lees late
of Clerkenwell in the county of Middlesex etc. This is just the beginning of
the document which would be fantastic for anyone with an interest in the Lees
family history as it seems to contain a great deal of information. It will
take some reading as it continues on to 3 large pages all handwritten with
fairly small writing. |
