the document shows the property bounded on the East by the Poplar and
Greenwich Ferry Road [today's West Ferry Road] and on the West by the
Thames. Evidently the 21 year lease
was terminated at an early date as the 3 pairs of seals have been rather
crudely cut out. Curiously they've
been retained as sepaprate items inside the as-folded document. Manuscript on 2 large parchment

contain hand-coloured plans, and clearly the property was very close to the

deed in very good condition from the 8th year of the reign of King
George. Dated 1721. Counties stated include Middlesex and
Essex. This really is in great condition with the usual folds and creases
with no tears. Very neatly handwritten
but the style I find difficult to interpret.
The names stated on the deed include Russell, Dixon, Fitzgerard and
Windey, and the deed is signed by Wendey and Dixon. Wax seals still present and there are three
blue sixpenny stamps down the side of the deed. I generally only deal in books and have
described this as best I can. |

MANUSCRIPT DOCUMENT This being THE TITLE DEED OF LEASE OF 13 AND 15 BENTHAM

CHRISTOPHER CHRISTIE, GEORGE BONE, HENRY GRANT BAKER AND CHARLES BARBER BEING
A MAJORITY OF TWO THIRDS OF THE TRUSTEES OF SIR JOHN CASS CHARITY OF THE
FIRST PART TO ALFRED SMITH AND JOB SMITH OF WORSHIP STREET FINSBURY IN THE
COUNTY OF MIDDLESEX AND SARAH SMITH OF HORNSEY. SIGNED BY JOHN CHRISTOPHER
CHRISTIE WHO WE THINK IS ONE THE CHRISTIE FAMILY OF AUCTION HOUSE FAME. The Sir
John Cass Foundation dates formally from 1748 and 1998 marked its 250th
Anniversary. The origins of the Foundation are to be found in the early years
of the eighteenth century during the turbulent and complex politics of the
reign of Queen Anne. The educational establishments which have been supported
and managed by the Foundation date back to the Stuart Restoration period. The
history of the Foundation touches upon education in and around the City of
London at almost every stage, ranging from infants schools to university
level, and representing an historical microcosm of the development of English
education over more than three centuries. In more recent years the Foundation
has broadened its support for educational and youth activities and has also
commissioned and funded research into educational issues. It continues to
fulfil the role for which it was originally established in 1748, managing the
land and properties with which it was endowed and has developed, and seeking
to serve the educational and other needs of the young population of inner
London.. ON ONE
