measuring 23 & three quarter inches by 19 inches, with no tears or rips.

A Letters patent given under the great seal of James I
being a licence of alienation for lands in Carlton le Moorland, Lincolnshire,
between Sir Robert Tyrwhitt Knight and Baronet to Abraham Speckard. Fine
calligraphic initial J and about 80 % of the Great Seal of James I attached
by original vellum tag. The seal depicts the enthroned King holding orb and
sceptre on the obverse and the King on horseback with sword raised on the
reverse. The Tyrwhitts were an important landowning family in Lincolnshire
throughout the Middle Ages and beyond. The area of text giving the date is
heavily rubbed and is possibly 1616 (14th year of reign) although I cannot be
precise. lands in Carlton le Moorland. |
