in 1853 but after just 6 years the lease was taker over by another brewer,
Joseph Chrimes. In 1869 the same premises were leased to maltster John Brown.

[ The 5 abstracts are dated 1871, 1875, 1890, 1898
and 1908 and between them chronicle deeds and documents reaching back to
1831. The 1875 abstract specifically
details a plot of land called The Short Butts which would imply this part of
the estate was about to be sold off.
The 1908 abstract is accompanied by a hand-drawn plan on waxed linen
showing Tarngate Farm bordering the Fleetwood-Poulton railway - indeed
there's a level crossing marked on the plan as Tarngate Crossing. Inevitably 5 multi-paged abstracts in
relatively quick succession will have some duplication of detail,
nevertheless they deserve to be kept together. The 5 (ref 408/183) |

This is a vellum indenture on one sheet in excellent
condition and bearing two decorative wax seals. For £355/0/0 it conveys
property from Henry Paul Fleetwood and Edward Pedder to Richard Harrison and
Paul Harrison Thornber. The land conveyed is Smiths Croft otherwise Luptons
Field and Hornby's Little Meadow otherwise Green Meadow. The land was
purchased at an auction in the Kings Arms Inn Poulton in May 1855. The ornate
script is clear and rather unusual : in style it resembles an earlier period
which might suggest that it was written by an elderly clerk. The whole
document is without any real blemish and the revenue stamp is stamped Poulton
Lancs. There is an additional 1909 pinned memoranda attached .Persons named
includeRev Richard Thornber, Dickson, Birch. |
