Mortgage Torquay 1867

A handwritten Indenture by way of Mortgage dated 29 March 1867.

The Mortgage was granted over a 99 Year Lease dated 2 October 1830.

The property in question is a parcel of Ground number 'four' being part of a Meadow called 'Manymead' in the Parish of Tormoham (otherwise known as Tormohun) Devon.  There is reference to the property bounding the Turnpike Road leading from Torre to Torquay.  The Indenture description on the back suggests the property address as 35 Lower Union Street, Torquay but this is not a street which currently exists, although there is a Union Street, Torquay.  No doubt a local historian may be able to track down the precise modern location.

Parties: George Beavis of Torquay, Gentleman (1), and Thomas Lee of Crediton, Gentleman (2).

Signed and sealed by: both parties

Condition: A little discoloured, with some creases as you would expect with a document of this age but otherwise in good condition and legible.

Beautiful 3 page paper indenture regarding an agreement made in the year 1760.  It relates to Devonshire, William Barter & James Buller.   The date 1818 appears with the signatures so I assume this is a continuation copy of the 1760 original.  The 1760 vellum original is also in my possession & I am selling it on ebay this week. Ilsington - Higher Sigford - Devon - 1634 indenture. Almost 26 inches by 15 inches.  Some yellowing along the bottom folds and also some wear along this fold - it is all quite legible - there is trivial water damage on the top right corner and the right hand side is not as fresh as the rest of the document.  It has been in contact with a rusty object the size of a button and this has left its mark which shows through on the third fold at the bottom margin.  The wax seal is missing.  Between Thomas Small and his son Hugh. Re a house on Ilsington occupied by John Archer.
