revolve around two Richard Pool(e)s, one of whom made his mark on a 1793

papers imply he died around 1810), and another who died in Hullandward in 1872. The papers also concern a John Pool
who died 1829/30. Some original, some copies, but a nice little collection.

Abstract
of Title to Vickar's Meadow, Mappleton This
is an 1834 abstract drawn up following the death of Robert Millward, probably in anticipation of a sale of Vickar's Meadow. The abstract gives details of property
deeds going back to 1731 when the land was also known as Peacock's Meadow.
Manuscript on 15 large paper sheets, much water damage to the extent that
virtually all pages have some text missing. Paper is very fragile in places
so no examination has been made to extract the details of the various owners

interesting though incomplete sequence of property deeds ranging in dates

setting up of the New Repton & District Laundry
18 months previous. In 1915 the

document, approximately 16" x 8", dated the "thirtieth year of
the reign of George the Second", which by my reckoning is 1757. This is
a final judgement made in the King's Court at
Westminster by Justices John Willes, Edward Clive
and Henry Bathurst. It concerns property in the "Borough of Derby"
sold by Isaac Hawkins to Edward Hunt. On the reverse of the document it
states: "Delivered by Proclamation according to the form of the
Statute". I assume this means that the text of the document was read out
to the general public. The document is in good condition for its age, with
only minor foxing and no holes or tears. The text is perfectly legible and
much clearer than the photo suggests. |

in this auction is a genuine historical manuscript from the reign of King George
III. It is a hand scrivened indenture dated
September 4th 1815 between the Reverend William Hurd,
Gent, of Kniveton in Derbyshire and Mr Thomas Travis of Crich in
Derbyshire. It relates to various properties being leased by Hurd to Travis in the manor of South Wingfield
in Derbyshire. The indenture measures 24 inches wide by 17 inches high and is
in lovely condition for a hand-written document almost 200 years old. This is
a highly collectable piece containing 39 lines of beautiful hand written
text. The indenture is signed on the bottom by William Hurd
and carries his seal in red sealing wax. The duty stamp is also intact. The
document has been folded for much of its life, the crease marks of the folds
are visable but having been folded has done much to
preserve the quality of the document. Also mentions Samuel Hardwicke,
possibly owning or occupying adjoining land. |
