MANNOR OR LORDSHIP OF NATEBY WITH ALL ITS RIGHTS AND MANSION HOUSE - NATEBY
HALL AND WINDMILL AND KILNE. INFORMATION FOR COLLECTORS: Nateby Nateby township is said to have been
the tenure of the family of Travers of Tulketh to as far back as the reign of
Henry I. Laurence Travers, who lived soon after that reign, was succeeded by
eleven generations. Nateby appears to be in the possesion of William Travers
in 1524 and 1559, and Richard Travers is recorded as holding Nateby Hall in
1557. The greater part of the township was divided at the time of the duke of
Hamiltons sale, the balance being sold to a number
of people by Mr. Hand around 1800. At Nateby in the "Over Wyre"
district between Garstang and the parish of Pilling, a large concerted
research programme which involves several universities is being undertaken
right now. This came about because of the discovery of a Roman road under a
lawn in a private garden; it appears to point to a major site of ancient
occupation which had previously only been guessed at. The archeologists are
reported to have identified several woodhenges; a large fish pond, many
underground chambers and several roads, both Roman and pre-Roman. GUARANTEED
