An 1873
declaration as to the title to the tithes and tithe rent charge in lieu
thereof issuing out of certain farms in the parish of Upton, Somerset. The parties
involved are Henry Woolcott of Sandhill, yeoman and Charles Longbourne of 26
Lincoln Inn Fields. Where Henry has acted as agent after the death of Sir
Thomas Lethbridge Baronet in1849 now confirms details regarding the tithes in
order that land can be sold. The property in question is the Sandhill Estate
covering 49 fields spread over two farms called East Moorhouse and West
Withy, all in Upton, Somerset. Charles along with John Longbourne are
solictors working as trustees. From the two letters that are attached the
estate is then purchased by Colonel Davie for £13,000. A schedule included in
the main document lists the fields with their corresponding number from the
tithe map, their field names and acreage. A two
page document on paper, one sheet folded, measuring 9 inches by 1 foot 3
inches. In good condition, no holes or tears, although it has been slightly
damaged by water. The handwritten script is clear throughout and easy to
read. A good amount of information is included that would be of interest to a
local historian. There are two large watermarks, one on each page with a
fleur de lye with crown above on the 1st and JW HATMAN 1873 on the 2nd. The
two letters are in excellent condition both with the watermark JOYNSON 1872. |
