These
are the pieces [of land] which Robert Garneys seeks from Sir Robert Ty, kt.,
in exchange for the lands and holdings written below, of the tenements of
Asshemans in the town of Barsham, manuscript on vellum, in Latin, 31 lines,
docket on verso Garneys, folds, creased and yellowed, 250 x 310mm., [ early
fifteenth century]. First,
Robert seeks a piece of pasture called the Brook extending from the church of
Ryngesfield [Ringsfield, Suffolk] to a certain small meadow belonging to
Agatha Gilberd. Much of the transaction focusses on the holding called
Asshemans. Told (by Garneyss reckoning): 65 acres, 3 rods; total acreage by
[reckoning of] Ty: 86 acres, 3 rods. Then a schedule of the holding Sir
Robert Ty will have in exchange including property in Rendlesham and
Shipmeadow, Suffolk. Total: 103½ acres (=20s. rent). Possibly
Robert Garneys of Beccles (c. 1355-1411), married Catherine Broke/Blanchard. |
