Mary
Ann Rowing died 1900 in Norfolk A large number of papers relating to the
death and estate of Miss Mary Ann Rowing of Norfolk. A brief reading of the
documents reveals that Mary Ann lived at Hackford in a house “in a very sad
state of repair.” She may have died in an accident and was buried at Deopham
on 10 October 1900. Her niece Alice Fenwick was heir and she erected a
memorial stone in her aunt’s memory. The plate and furniture were auctioned
on 10 November and the property in June 1901. Alice’s sister was Mrs B. Page,
Attleborough. We also learn that: Archibald Rowing owned property purchased
from Philip Crespigny He was trustee to Chaplin Mary Ann Rowing received a
rent of 1d per annum from property in the Manor of Wicklewood Other
properties were owned at Morley and Hingham Much more could be gleaned from
the documents with careful reading and local/family knowledge. Mary Ann was
heir (daughter?) of Archibald Rowing, who died on 23 August 1857. Francis
White’s History, Gazetteer, and Directory of Norfolk 1854 states that
Archibald Rowing, senior lived at The Hall, Deopham. The 49 letters and
papers include: Correspondence concerning valuation of estate and sale of
effects, etc. from and between: Salta, Simpson & Sons, Auctioneers,
Estate Agents and Valuers, Attenborough T. Rowing Fendick, Pettiver &
Pearkes, Solicitors, 21 College Hill London [E.B.] Pomeroy & Son,
Solicitors, Wymondham Sadd & Bacon, Solicitors, Norwich Post Office
Savings Estate Duty Office Inland Revenue Numerous letters from Alice
Fendick, niece of Mary Ann, The Cottage, Deopham, Wymondham Allied Assurance
Company: reminder for payment Telegram: funeral delayed for one day All the
documents are in very good condition. Weight: 280 grams. |
