Original early Victorian document on a piece of land in Middle Street in the Hampshire town of Gosport. This is an Abstract of Title containing 19 large pages (34cm x 41cm) of handwritten detail.This is a detailed history of all the previous owners of this piece of land on the south side of Middle Street.This is an 1840s copy of work that was compiled in 1833 and every agreement on the freeholds and leaseholds are listed, going back to December 15th 1749.The history has been officially scrutinised and comments are present in the marginals,this work has been dated January 1843.

Obviously, with nineteen pages,there is a wealth of information for local historians.I am not familiar with Gosport and am not sure where the property was exactly.There is a line that suggests this is the middle part of the High Street.There is also a description of the land being next to the gateway of the Star Inn.There are many names listed with the 100 year history(mainly Georgian) and these are some of them;

1749; John Callard, Gentleman/ James Grist, glazier/, both from Gosport.

1803;Tristram Harper, surgeon/James Matthews,Gentleman/ Thomas Biddlecombe,all from Gosport, and Thomas Waller a yeoman from Litchfield.

1813;Frederick Hamilton,clerk from Brighton/Robert Winter,Gentleman from the Serjeants of Arms Inn in Fleet Street London.

1817;William Notly, Gentleman from Fareham/ John & Benjamin Goodeve,Gosport Bankers/ John McCauldish,Gentleman from Cosham.

1819;Thomas Bradbury Winter,surgeon of Sidmouth Street in Middlesex/Daniel Sharp, a Romsey Gentleman.

1823;John Budden Jeffries, a Gentleman of Bedford Row Middlesex/John Buller,a Southampton Gentleman.

1833;Charles Frederick Collins,Gentleman of Spital Square in Middlesex.

The pages are bound with string.When the paper is held to the light we can see a manufacturer's watermark dated 1841.So this gives the item it's antique authenticity. The document is a little frayed on the edges but generally in good presentable condition and there is no real damage.The handwritten  text is very clear and legible.

This is a copy of an Indenture is between William Lloyd of the first part, Richard Partington and Joseph Partington of St. Andrew, Holborn of the second part, Thomas Burnett of Exeter of the third part.  It related to a substantial loan paid to Lloyd by Burnett the security for which appears to be properties in Queen Charlottes Row, Paddington.  It is dated 2nd February 1780.

It consists of 4 pages (8 sides).  The pages measure approx. 32cm x 20cm.  It has three horizontal folds.  Unusually for a document of this type, the script is printed (rather than handwritten).  There is script on seven out of eight sides.  At the bottom of the seventh side is an attestation stating that this is a copy of the original deed and the copy was made 2nd February 1792.

It is in reasonable condition.  There are some small tears and the edges are crumpled.  The inside is clean.  The outside is a little grubby, especially along the fold lines.
