This is a document on a single leaf
of vellum dated April 20th 1641 being the lease of a farm and related
buildings in Danby, Yorkshire for 21 years to James Wood of Glaisdale, North Yorkshire. It is written in English and
has an attractive calligraphic introduction. It is signed (“Danby”) at the
base by Henry Danvers, Earl of Danby. The document measures 63 x 48 cm, and
is in good condition. It is a little scuffed overall, and there is a small
hole in one of the folds in the bottom left corner, but otherwise it is
legible throughout. There is a small loss of vellum in the lower left corner,
which does not touch the text. Henry Danvers, Earl of Danby (1573 – 1644) was
appointed Lord President of Munster in 1607, and was governor of Guernsey in
1621 until his death. He also established the Botanical Gardens at Oxford in
1622. |

premises at what looks like Ffollifoot (Sollifoot ?)
between Thos Geal (from the image this may be Teale) and William Close. Dated 13th February 1796.
Thomas Geal is from Scowforth
in the County of York and is listed as a Carpenter and Joiner. William Close
is from Scirby-Overblow also in the County of York.
The Manuscript is over two pages attached at the bottom with the signatures
of Thomas Geal and William Close and for its age is
